Qigong for Osteoporosis & Arthritis

Gout, osteoporosis, rheumatoid arthritis, ostearthritis and all other forms of arthritis and joint/bone deterioration can be remedied effectively through a specially tailored tai chi qigong regimen.

Full-bodied qigong exercises like tai chi chuan are recommended to generate and circulate vital chi energy in joints, bones and muscles. Qigong (a.k.a chi kung) is a healing process that works from within, so healing chi is not only able to heal affected areas but can also rebuild and strengthen bone density and affected joints.

First begin with Songchi Qigong or Loosening Exercises for Tai Chi Chuan to loosen joints and muscles. Only when joints and muscles are relaxed and loose can the healing chi begin to flow and circulate freely.

Tai Chi Loosening Exercises can help remove early signs or mild cases of osteoporosis, osteoarthritis, other forms of arthritis and similar ailments, but for most cases, you need a more thorough workout.

Depending on the locality of your condition, the next stage would be Xueqi Xunhuan Qigong or Circulating Blood and Chi Qigong which promotes circulation, mostly for upper torso.

Also highly recommended is Taiji Qigong Nuanshen Fa or Tai Chi Chi Kung Warm-Up Exercises for targeting different areas of the body, promoting circulation, flexibility and mobilty.

As well, Taiji Qigong Shibashi or Eighteen Postures of Tai Chi Chi Kung. This tai chi qigong is currently very popular in Asia because it offers a gentle but thorough workout on the whole body — ideal for all kinds of osteoporosis, gout, osteoarthritis and other arthritic conditions.

You can practice all these qigong sets individually on alternating days or altogether in one sitting.

For best results, make sure you incorporate yogic breathing. When done correctly, qigong yogic breathing will help you to generate more chi energy at the most basic level.

At higher levels, it can help to send healing energy to designated areas of weakness throughout the body. One such particular favorite qigong among beginners and practiced veterans alike is the Shou Qi Fa or Gathering the Chi Qigong.

The most efficacious and beneficial of all qigong exercises is tai chi chuan, but for it to be most effective, you should first build your foundation with a minimum of Loosening Exercises and Eighteen Postures. See Suggested Qigong Program for Beginning Students for a more complete regimen.

As part of your qigong regimen, drink lots of distilled water or water purified by reverse osmosis to flush out inorganic mineral deposits in bones, joints and muscles. Often, too many of these deposits can cause not only pain but also stiffness and creaking or cracking in the joints.

Also, fill your work place and reading area with full-spectrum lighting (FSL). Hang two four-foot fluorescent tubes 45 degrees above eye level to expose your eyes to the benefits of FSL.

Such lighting affects the optic nerve that connects from the eye to the brain and not only boosts the immune system but also provides bone-strengthening vitamin D and reduces gout, osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and other arthritic conditions.

To expose your eyes directly to the light, do not filter the light with any screen or wear any lenses over your eyes. For the same reason, if possible, do not wear prescription lenses when practicing tai chi qigong. Try to expose yourself to at least two hours of full-spectrum lighting every day.

Depending on the type and severity of your arthritis, you should see improvement within the month. About four to six months of daily practice should eliminate most, if not all of your arthritis and other disorders, and keep them from coming back.

However, more severe conditions of bone and/or joint deterioration can take upward to a few years. The fact that tai chi qigong is still able to heal so many of these conditions at all is nevertheless amazing.

Daliang Cun Qi Fa ("Amassing Chi") or Stopped Breath Qigong will also work on different forms of arthritis, but should only be practiced by the advanced level student or with the guidance of a qualified instructor. When practiced correctly, Stopped Breath Qigong will treat osteoporosis, osteoarthritis and similar arthritic conditions with much faster results than most other forms of tai chi qigong.

If you want to speed up your treatment even further, there is a qigong herbal compress that eliminates most arthritic conditions within one to three treatments. I offer it as a thank you gift in exchange for contribution and financial support of this site.

Don't let gout, osteoporosis, and other bone and joint disorders hinder you from a pain-free life. Restore your health and vitality with this effective qigong regimen. Make tai chi chuan a part of your healthy lifestyle.
